The clients are very nice and grateful for everything the Newton Food Pantry provides. They are especially excited when they find food that is a staple to their culture’s cuisine. In general, I really appreciate that so many people are willing to donate their time and money to run this organization. It is very nice to meet so many generous people. I feel blessed to be able to volunteer every week.

Do you have any female mentors or leaders you admire?

Yes, there is a woman in a Russian Community, her name is Inessa Rifkin. She’s the founder of the Russian School of Mathematics. I really admire her and appreciate the impact she has on the community, and especially on our kids.

Are you involved in the community in any other ways?

I am involved in the Russian Jewish Community Foundation. I help organize fundraising programs and assist with any other volunteer tasks that are needed.

“I’m really glad that this organization exists. I have always known that there are many people struggling to make ends meet; I was one of them 25 years ago when we immigrated with nothing. I wish I knew of such programs then. But, now I am glad to be able to give to the community that needs it, and I really appreciate how the Newton Food Pantry is trying to cater to different cultures by getting special food for them all.” — Yana Brodsky
