How It Works & Where to Find It
The Newton Community freedge is an outdoor refrigerator and pantry, operated and funded by the Newton Food Pantry, that offers free food and personal care items to anyone in need. It is located at 420 Watertown Street in Newton, in the parking lot of Central Drapery & Dry Cleaning. The freedge is open for shopping 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The freedge, a publicly accessible refrigerator and pantry, provides free food and personal care products to anyone who needs them, no questions asked and no sign up needed.
Who Can Use the freedge
Anyone can take items from the freedge. You do not have to live in Newton and no sign up is needed. You can also donate unopened and unexpired nonperishable and fresh foods to the freedge. DO NOT LEAVE MEAT, FISH, or CHICKEN or FROZEN FOOD. Please take ONLY what you need and leave the rest for your neighbors. Please bring your own grocery bags.
How the freedge Is Stocked
Every day, multiple times a day, Newton Food Pantry volunteers and community members keep the freedge stocked with fresh produce, breads, prepared meals, milk, eggs, nonperishable items and more.
