Upcoming Closures!
The Newton Food Pantry will be closed on Wednesday, April 29 and Thursday, April 30.
This year’s captain is volunteer Doug Herrick, who has biked for the Newton Food Pantry five times already! The opportunity to raise funds to help increase public awareness of food insecurity in Massachusetts inspired him to participate. Doug is an avid biker and bikes no less than 100 miles per week during the summer and fall! He was also a part of an adult hockey league that won the national championship in their division! He plans to do the 50-mile Bike Route this year!
The walking and cycling events occur on Sunday, October 2, beginning and ending at Nobles and Greenough School in Dedham. As a part of the Newton Food Pantry’s 2022 team, participants can complete a supported 25- or 50-Mile Bike, a supported 5K Walk, or choose and complete their own Off the Beaten Path fundraising activity. The Off the Beaten Path fundraiser is an opportunity to participate virtually by choosing your own exercise option (i.e. kayaking, hiking, cycling, etc.). It must be completed between now and October 2, 2022, and can be done in addition to or in place of the supported biking/walking events.
To join Doug and the rest of our team, click here, choose Join Team to the left and then select your preferred event. Or, consider supporting all riders by signing up to volunteer on race day—be sure to put Newton Food Pantry in the comments section.
If you cannot ride or volunteer, please consider making a donation to help the Newton Food Pantry meet (or exceed!) its team fundraising goal of $14,000. As Doug puts it, “the outreach of the Newton Food Pantry has expanded significantly in the last 30 months [and because of that] the budget to enable this expansion has increased proportionally”. Whether you participate or donate, you will be helping fight food insecurity in Massachusetts!
