Upcoming Closures!
The Newton Food Pantry will be closed on Wednesday, April 29 and Thursday, April 30.
This year’s event will take place on Sunday, October 1, 2023. As a member of our Newton Food Pantry team, participants have the option to complete a 5k walk, cycle a 25-, 50-, or 62.2-mile bike route, or design their own Off the Beaten Path fundraising activity. For the Off the Beaten Path option, participants may complete an activity of their choice any time between now and October 1, 2023. This may include hiking, kayaking, cycling or any other exercise option.
The walking and cycling events on October 1st depart from and return to the Noble and Greenough School in Dedham. The individual routes can be found on their website. The 50 and 25-mile bike rides are fully supported, scenic rides. Both routes have a halfway “pit stop” in which riders can snack, socialize and take a break. Each event concludes with a festive celebration at the finish line.
This year’s captain is volunteer Doug Herrick, who has biked for the Newton Food Pantry six times already and was last year’s captain as well. He is inspired by the opportunity to raise funds to help increase public awareness of food insecurity in Massachusetts. An avid cyclist, Doug bikes no fewer than 100 miles each week during the fall and summer! We are excited to have Doug lead this year’s Ride for Food team again.
