“It is an absolute honor to serve as the Newton Food Pantry President and to get to know our amazing clients and volunteers—many of whom I call dear friends,” Regina said. “It is also an honor to be selected as one of the 2023 Myra Kraft Community MVP Award Winners. Myra’s life-long service is so admirable, and I hope my years of service would make her proud.”
Over the last 25 years, the Myra Kraft Community MVP Awards program has recognized volunteers whose work goes above and beyond to give back to their communities. This program is led by the Kraft family and the New England Patriots Foundation. “Myra loved volunteering and positively impacting the lives of others. I am proud that we continue to honor her legacy of volunteerism in association with this award ceremony,” said Patriots Chairman and CEO Robert Kraft.
As a dedicated volunteer for more than 11 years, Regina’s work at the Newton Food Pantry has been immeasurable. During her time as President, she recognized the importance of creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for clients and led the efforts to recruit a diverse cadre of volunteers who are multilingual and come from a variety of cultures and backgrounds. She also strives to ensure culturally-relevant foods are readily available for in-person shopping.
“As a woman of color and a daughter of immigrants, I feel my cultural competency is a unique asset to the Newton Food Pantry. Over 50% of our clients identify as non-white and over 60% speak a language other than English at home,” says Regina.
We are immensely grateful for all the amazing work Regina has done for the Newton Food Pantry and look forward to seeing all the good she does in the future. To read the full press release about this year’s winners, click here.
