Upcoming Closures!
The Newton Food Pantry will be closed on Wednesday, April 29 and Thursday, April 30.
And the financial rewards have been significant. This event has raised just over $76,000 during the past five years, making it one of our most significant fundraising events and enabling us to serve the increasing needs of local families.
The annual Ride for Food event, which raises money for nonprofit organizations dealing with food insecurity issues, is the brainchild of Three Squares New England, a non-profit that brings together hunger relief organizations, donors and supporters.
Jen Shadrick, the event coordinator for Three Squares New England, recently visited the Newton Food Pantry during a busy Wednesday afternoon as clients came to shop for food. She also observed our collaboration with Lasell University and the ever-popular Newton Community freedge.
“It was an amazing experience. I’m so impressed with everything the Newton Food Pantry is doing, particularly the diversity of your clients and the broad selection of fresh vegetables and culturally-relevant foods,” Jen said.
“You’re one of the few food programs enabling clients to do in-person shopping again. And watching the volunteers helping out your clients by loading their carts, bringing their food to the car, and just showing so much patience was wonderful to see.”
“We’re very excited to partner with you again in raising funds and increasing awareness about the serious issues of food insecurity and waste,” Jen said. “One in six households in Massachusetts are impacted by hunger every day, and we’ll remain at your side to continue our mission of providing food for children and families.”
Jen is spending a considerable part of her time at Three Squares New England preparing for this October’s Ride for Food. In addition to the 25- and 50-mile rides, there will also be a 5K walk and a virtual “Off the Beaten Path” opportunity.
This year’s Ride for Food will take place on Sunday, October 1 at Noble and Greenough School in Dedham. For more information about the Ride for Food click here. To join the Newton Food Pantry’s Ride for Food team or to donate, click here.
